"Aromas of cherry, dark cherry, raspberry, spices, peanut shells, hint of oak, and minerals. On the palate, silky bodied, soft tannins, medium acidity, dark cherry, blackberry, hint of chocolate, cherry, prune, peanuts, smooth finish.”

Domaine Parent Bourgogne Pommard, Burgundy '13.  $60.

An earthy red berry fruit nose exhibits hints of the sauvage and forest floor. There is good intensity to the attractively precise and vibrant flavors on display. A family run domaine, from the heart of Pommard. Sisters Anne and Catherine represent the 12th generation, perpetuating a family tradition dating back to the 17th century. With 10 hectares of vineyards featuring clay-limestone soils, allowing the Bourgogne rouge to express its power and elegance.

Domaine Confuron - Cotetidot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru '11. Burgundy.  $190.

An exceptionally pretty and admirably pure nose of red currant, spice and mineral hints merges seamlessly into detailed, vibrant and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that echo the minerality of the nose. There is excellent balance and refined tannins on the mildly austere but beautifully lingering finale.

Stella Bella 'Suckfizzle' Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon '04.  $65.

Medium purple-red; a silky smooth entry of cassis-accented fruit, next blackcurrant, and finally lingering, savoury tannins on the finish, the oak subservient; simply needs time. (Tasted 2011) Drink to 2024.

Jacob's Creek 'Johann' Barossa Shiraz Cabernet '01.  $90.

Perfumed, with aromas of violet, blackberry and spice.

Exhibits flavours of licorice allsorts, blackberry and blackcurrants, followed by spice and stewed fruit. Fine grained, persistent tannins, followed by a long aftertaste of blackcurrant, spice and vanilla.

Kirrihill Clare Valley Shiraz '04.  $40.

Blackberry and cherry aromas; a firm but classy palate, typical of '04; sweet fruit on the mid- to back-palate, with a firm, dry finish. 93pts Halliday. Drink to 2024.

Tatachilla 'Foundation' McLaren Vale Shiraz '97.  $45.

Deep, inky purple-red. The richly layered and ripe bouquet has abundant glossy, dark cherry fruit and balanced oak. While the palate is powerful, intense and concentrated, it cleverly avoids heaviness; the oak is subtle and the acidity beautifully balanced.

Rosemount 'Balmoral' McLarenvale Syrah '97.  $55.

Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is potent, with voluminous cherry/plum fruit and spicy vanilla oak. The rich, complex palate is expansive in every way - fruit, oak and tannins. All it needs is time.

Stonyfell Metala Black Label Langhorne Creek Old Vine Reserve Shiraz '95.  $65.

Metala Black Label Original Plantings Shiraz has had a long and proud history in Australia. Once held in the same esteem as Penfolds Grange, this classic South Australian label still has access to the original plantings of the Metala Vineyard, dating back to 1891. This wine exhibits its trademark blackberry, pepper, plum and vanilla flavours with wonderfully refined tannins.

Houghton 'Gladstones' Frankland River Shiraz '11.  $65.

Open-fermented and matured in high quality French oak (much new), this unashamedly full-bodied wine is laden with black fruits, licorice, earth and rounded tannins. Leave alone for at least 5 years.

Stanton & Killeen Vintage Port '05.  $45 (375ml).

A multifaceted bouquet with aromas of numerous spices and fruit cadences; a very rich and complex palate with black fruits, a dash of chocolate, clean spirit and a wonderfully sweet finish. Shiraz/Durif/Tinta Cao/Tinta Roriz/Touriga Nacional.
